A horse named 2008 has thrown a lot of riders - even experienced ones.
We’re all in this one together, no matter our circumstances, no matter how well we planned. When people suffer, it affects us all.
This isn’t just about finances and mortgages. We have become so focused on consumerism – and paying for it, that […]

My Friend Jeff Thredgold, a noted economist and great speaker, reports on the “Brookings Top 10″:
—-> The following is an excerpt from a report titled “Top 10
Global Economic Challenges Facing America’s 44th President”
presented by Brookings Global Economy and Development:
Ten Things the new administration needs to work on in 2009. Very much worth the read. […]

We know how we got here. During the last few decades we’ve been bent on owning everything we can get our hands on; accumulating wealth, debt, and “stuff” at an unprecedented rate. We are inundated daily with ads telling us that we aren’t enough; we don’t have enough; we aren’t beautiful enough; we aren’t skinny […]

As much as I want you to stand up and be counted, I also want you to have the energy and the confidence to keep moving forward. In that spirit, I created two f_ree ebooks to lift you up and give you some courage. One is for Managers and Business Owners who are trying to motivate their employees during this economic insanity. The second is for everyone trying to find their way out of this mess. They are simple PDF files, about a dozen pages long. Easy to download and easy to view over and over. You will find them here.

Pay attention while you are out and about getting ready for the Holidays. Humans make for interesting entertainment.
I am at the Post office. Lines are long as Arizona residents struggle with the notion of 75º afternoons and Christmas only two weeks away. Here is a mother with twins, trying to juggle packages and frisky, beautiful […]

We’ve lost ourselves. This economic debacle is only a symptom of the real problem: A lack of Accountability in the halls of Congress, and in the major Boardrooms of America. As we say in Hawaii, The fish rots from the head down. We cannot fix this until the people we entrusted with our governing, our tax dollars, and our finances set greed aside and start being accountable for their actions. Shortsighted greed has been the norm for several decades. This does not belong to one party or one president, although the recent spate of leaders has certainly sped up our trip to hell.

“Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.” Helen Keller
Probably the worst thing we can do right now is dabble in regret and despair. It’s extremely easy to wallow right now. People who were sneering a few months ago at others who had financial issues are now […]

I’m watching the results of this economic hiccup with great interest. I notice there are two types of people - those who are ‘waiting to see what happens’ and those who are making things happen.
Which one are you?
At this juncture, I doubt that one human on the planet can predict accurately what comes next. So […]

My friend Peggy from Hawaii reminded me to pick up Viktor Frankl’s book, “Man’s Search for Meaning,” at exactly the right time. We all have times of regret in our lives. Times where we wonder why we went somewhere, made that choice, got involved with someone.
As I re-read the amazing story of Viktor Frankl’s experiences […]
