Recipe For Greatness

Beth Terry | January 4, 2009

Wonderful thought from Zane Grey to kickstart your 2009 plan for Success and ride out this weird economy:
“To bear up under loss;
To fight the bitterness of defeat and the weakness of grief;
To be victor over anger;
To smile when tears are close;
To resist disease, evil men, and base instincts;
To hate hate and love Love;
To go on […]

The USA is in an Accountability Crisis

Beth Terry | December 11, 2008

We’ve lost ourselves. This economic debacle is only a symptom of the real problem: A lack of Accountability in the halls of Congress, and in the major Boardrooms of America. As we say in Hawaii, The fish rots from the head down. We cannot fix this until the people we entrusted with our governing, our tax dollars, and our finances set greed aside and start being accountable for their actions. Shortsighted greed has been the norm for several decades. This does not belong to one party or one president, although the recent spate of leaders has certainly sped up our trip to hell.

Finding Community in Adversity

Beth Terry | October 30, 2008

The controversial Reverend Ike once said, “The best thing you can do for the poor is not be one of them.”
I thought of that as I awoke to my radio playing Emerson Drive’s, “Moments.” Country music is exquisite in its ability to tell poignant stories with a few well chosen words. The song is […]

Bye Bye Blue Eyes, Paul Newman We’ll Miss You!

Beth Terry | September 27, 2008

“Ultimately, what really matters is a courageous spirit and a generous heart.”

Paul Newman embodied that. He was a courageous man, and a generous one. His long marriage to Joanne Woodward, in a community where marriage is tossed out as easily as last year’s cell phone, was a testament to love and to his spirit.

The Last Lecturer’s Final Farewell - Randy Pausch

Beth Terry | July 26, 2008

One of the bright lights, Randy Pausch, has finally left the building. He discovered he had pancreatic cancer last September. Instead of throwing a pity party, he got busy. Within days, he created a lecture about life, joy, love, happiness, having fun, and living with purpose. That speech on YouTube has been seen by millions. […]

The Real Secret to Life Happiness?

Beth Terry | July 8, 2008

Actually, I could title this, “The Real Secret to Life UN-happiness just as easily. In tracking my  progress over the decades, it’s easy to see the ups and downs. Much like standing on a mountain and looking back over the path you’ve walked to get there. The downs are just as pronounced as the ups. […]

“When You’re ridin’ thru hell, keep on ridin.” James Owen

Beth Terry | July 3, 2008

It was 2004 and I was going through a rough patch. My big brother Glenn, an honest-to-God cowboy from Nevada, told me I needed to read a new book that had just hit the shelves. James P. Owen, a stockbroker in Austin, and David Stoecklein, an amazing western photographer, had just put together “Cowboy Ethics: […]

Veterans Day and Heroes

Beth Terry | November 13, 2007

It’s the end of a long day. I was on the road most of the day, listening to the stories about Veterans on the radio. And I got to thinking about heroes. Who they are, why they are, and who I admire most.
My heart aches when I see a Vet home from the war […]

Adopt-a-thon and Pet Blessing Report

Beth Terry | October 27, 2007

Joyce proudly shows off Franci, her brand new adopted puppy.

The PACC911 event today at the Franciscan Renewal Center was wonderful. There were tents everywhere, and the line for pet blessings wound through the exhibits and rescue tents. I decided not to bring my feisty little Chihuahuas for the blessing. My five-pound little Xena would […]

  • The Cactus Wrangler

"About 'CactusWrangler.com'"

The way I see it, Cactus is the most resilient plant in the desert. If you find yourself stuck out on the desert and you can get past the thorns, its fruit will save your life. The same goes for us human critters. If we can get past the thorns of our own life, what we find in our core will save us and sustain us.
